{design} 88 years of olympic logo design…

Design Stories has posted a collection of Olympic logos (both Winter and Summer) since 1924.

Looking through the different logos, I’m not a fan of the designs from the 1980s and 1990s. There appears to be no artistic flow and they seem very impersonal.

A trend of full colour stacked logos with the Olympic rings at the bottom is apparent from 1984 onward.

My favourite logos tie in local culture and typography

I don’t even know where to begin with this year’s logo. The rigid numbers make it difficult to make out “2012″ in the mess of type. It is disappointing and takes a major step back in the artistic progression through the years.

Check out all of the logos here.
